The Sport of Modern Pentathlon

The Modern Pentathlon originally conceived by Pierre de Coubertin. The Pentathlon was first staged at the 5th Olympiad in Stockholm in 1912. The sport is compised of 5 distinctly different diciplines, Pistol Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Horse Riding and Running.

Competitions are held at provincial, national and international levels including the Pan American Games and the Olympics. Both male and female athletes compete at all levels.


Here in Alberta our provincial organization is Alberta Modern Pentathlon Association (AMPA) we are affiliated with the Canadian Modern Pentathlon Association who is a member of the Canadian Olympic Association. AMPA is responsible for growing our sport within the province as well has hosting the Provincial Championships each year.
Calgary Modern Pentathlon Club operates a training program from January thru June each year. The program includes swimming, shooting, fencing and running.
The Northern Alberta Modern Pentathlon Association was formed in the Edmonton area in 1998.
